Cookie Policy
Last updated 20 September 2026 · Ionity Global (Pty) Ltd · Policy 986 AED
This site uses one strictly-necessary cookie and a small amount of browser storage. Nothing optional is switched on until you switch it on. This page lists every item, what it is for, how long it lasts and how to change your mind.
1. Who we are
This website (ionity.co.za) is operated by Ionity Global (Pty) Ltd, Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa — the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, where it applies, the controller under the GDPR. Contact: ai@ionity.today · +27 646 999 877.
2. What cookies and browser storage are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. Browser storage (localStorage, the service-worker cache) works similarly but is never sent to a server automatically. Both let a site remember something between visits. We use them only for the purposes listed below.
3. Categories and your choice
When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. You can Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Customize by category. You can change this at any time via Cookie settings in the footer of every page.
| Category | Default | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Always on | Security, recording your consent choice and core site function. The site cannot honour your choice without it. |
| Preferences | Off | Remembers interface choices such as the sound toggle between visits. If off, choices last for the current visit only. |
| Analytics | Off | Reserved for anonymous, aggregated usage measurement. No analytics service is installed on this site today. If one is ever added it will remain off until you allow it, and this page will be updated first. |
| Marketing | Off | Not used. Reserved and off by default. |
4. Every item we set (first party)
| Name | Type | Category | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ionity_consent | Cookie | Strictly necessary | Records the categories you allowed and when, so the banner does not reappear on every page. | 180 days |
ionity-consent | localStorage | Strictly necessary | Mirror of the consent record for scripts that gate themselves on your choice. | Until cleared |
ionity-sound | localStorage | Preferences | Whether you switched interface sound on (it is off by default). Only saved between visits if you allowed Preferences. | Until cleared |
ionity-v73 | Service-worker cache | Strictly necessary | Offline copy of the site's pages and icons so it loads fast and works without a connection. Contains no personal data. | Replaced on the next site update |
We do not set advertising, tracking or fingerprinting cookies, and we do not sell or share visitor data.
5. Third-party services that may store their own data
Some page features load from other providers. Those providers may set their own cookies or storage under their own policies; the table says when each is contacted and what we do to minimise it.
| Provider | When contacted | Why | Their policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Every page | Web fonts. Google states it sets no cookies for the Fonts API. | fonts privacy |
| jsDelivr CDN | Every page | Delivers the open-source 3D library used for the backdrop. No cookies set by the CDN. | jsdelivr privacy |
| Google Cloud Storage | Only on the Edge Lab, when you enable the camera | Downloads the on-device vision models. Your camera frames never leave your browser. | google privacy |
| Google Generative Language API | Only when you send a message to AEDi (the site assistant) | Your typed message and any image you attach are sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the reply. No account, no history stored on our side. | google privacy |
| YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode) | Only when you tap the video on the home page | Plays the Ionity video via youtube-nocookie.com, which does not set cookies until playback starts. | google privacy |
| DMCA.com | Every page (badge image) | Loads the DMCA protection badge image from images.dmca.com. | dmca privacy |
6. What the Edge Lab does not store
The edge micro-audit, matrix vision and sensor-node demos read what your browser already exposes and compute entirely on your device. Nothing is written to cookies, nothing is uploaded, and there is no server endpoint receiving it. Closing the tab ends it.
7. How to change or withdraw your choice
- Open Cookie settings from the footer of any page and change the toggles, then Save choices.
- Clear this site's data in your browser (Settings → Privacy → Site data). The banner will ask again on your next visit.
- Block cookies for ionity.co.za in your browser. The site will still work; your consent choice will simply not be remembered.
8. Legal basis
Strictly-necessary items are used on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure, functioning website and honouring your consent choice. Every other category is used only with your consent, which you may withdraw at any time without affecting the lawfulness of use before withdrawal. We align with POPIA and GDPR principles under Policy 986 AED.
9. Changes to this policy
If we add a cookie, storage item or third-party service, this page is updated first and the consent version is incremented so the banner asks you again. The date at the top is the date of the last change.
